Why see a nutrition coach?

Year after year, surveys show that the most popular New Year's Resolutions are related to Physical Health, such as eating healthier, exercising more, and losing weight. The consistency of this data shows that people value their health and want to improve. However, year after year, the majority of people struggle to meet their health goals. Why? Because improving your physical health is difficult! Mindset, strategy, knowledge, intentionality and consistency are just a few qualities necessary to succeed in the long-term journey of improving physical health. And let's face it, we are busy people, and I understand, most of us would prefer to spend the little free time that we do have on things that we actually enjoy; not brainstorming strategies, or reading about proteins, carbs, and fats, or understanding the psychology of change.

That's where I help

I am here as a resource and for accountability. My role is to listen to you, teach you, strategize with you, and hold you accountable. With my gifts of teaching, empathy, energy, and my overall Enneagram nineness, I desire to inspire you to live a healthy and more satisfying life.

  • Listen

    Nutrition is not one size fits all. Every person is unique with different nutritional requirements, food preferences, life situations, etc. For that reason, I can never be an expert of you. You are the expert of you. That's why I'll ask many questions, and then LISTEN to you, judgement free, for a better understanding of you. "All behavior makes sense, in context."

  • Teach

    I will teach you things that can be immediately applied to your daily life, so you can, not only experience immediate changes, but also be able to implement what you learned to manage your own nutrition long term

  • Strategize

    Strategizing is one of those things that can be difficult to do alone, but is necessary in order to reach any goal. I will strategize WITH you in order to help you predict possible barriers, overcome current barriers, and help you feel your best

  • Accountability

    I cannot do the work for you. YOU are in control and it is YOUR responsibility to be all in to achieve the results you desire. But sometimes, all it takes to stay on track is having someone to remind you that you are fully capable of reaching your goals. YOU GOT THIS!!

  • Individual Coaching

    Are you stressed about your current health, unhappy with what you see in the mirror, anxious about your future health, overwhelmed by all the information online, or feeling defeated because nothing you do seems to make a lasting change?

    You’re not alone, you’re not a failure, and you’re not crazy. With a supportive coach who will listen and provide a safe space for you, you can overcome the barriers keeping you from feeling your best.

  • Group Coaching

    Are you local to Detroit and looking for more community and collaboration during your health journey? Are you interested in encouraging others, while also being encouraged; brainstorming with others, sharing ideas and experiences, while also receiving ideas and wisdom from other’s experiences? Are interested in building meaningful friendships with people on a similar journey as you?

    With a supportive coach who will provide a safe space for you, group coaching is a great way to not only be heard, learn, strategize, and be held accountable, but also listen to others, teach others from your experiens, help others strategize and hold your group mates accountable. Who Can Benefit from nutrition coaching?

  1. Inspired fitness beginners: If you’re beginning your fitness journey, tailored nutrition coaching can help support your journey with a strong foundation of strategies, meal plans, and encouragement to help you start/maintain your new habit, perform at optimal levels and achieve your fitness goals.

  2. Individuals who’s struggled to stick to a plan: Sometimes all it takes is having someone in your corner. If you’ve tried to reach your health and fitness goals by yourself and haven’t made the progress you desire, give nutrition coaching a try. I’ll support you every step of the way by listening to you, understanding your history, strategizing with you, collecting data with you, adjusting with you, celebrating with you and helping you stay on track.

  3. Weight Management Seekers: Struggling with weight loss, weight gain or maintenance? Our nutrition coaching provides customized plans and support to help you achieve and sustain your desired weight in a healthy and sustainable way.

  4. Individuals with Chronic Conditions: Although we do not prescribe meal plans for chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or gastrointestinal disorders, we can help and support you as you work to adhere to a registered dietitian’s meal plan for your chronic conditions. It’s one thing to know what to eat for diabetes; it’s another thing to navigate life’s challenges and obstacles to follow through with a dietitian’s prescription.

  5. Busy Professionals: Juggling a hectic work schedule and personal life often leaves little time for healthy eating. Nutrition coaching offers practical strategies to maintain a balanced diet, boost energy levels, and enhance productivity.

FAQs

  • Each one on one (individual) session will be 50 minutes

  • Yes! I'd love to hear any questions you may have in between our sessions. Id also love to hear about any victories you experience, barriers that popped up, or lessons you learned. You don't have to share those things in between sessions, but there's something special about journaling your process in the moment, and sharing it with me is one way to do it. You can email me at dominique@storyroadtherapy.com. Please allow at least 24 hours for my response.

    Depending on the question or questions you have, I may respond by letting you know that we will go over your question or questions during a 50 minute session.

  • Although the frequency is completely up to you, I recommend meeting with the coach once every other week. This is a cadence that will not only help you stay on track; but will also help you refocus quickly if you begin to get distracted, or quickly adjust a strategy if necessary

  • Each one on one session will be $80. We do not accept insurance for nutrition coaching

  • Your bank account will be charged at the conclusion of each session.

  • The first session is getting an understanding of expectations. I will share information about what I can and cannot do. I will reiterate what my role is as a coach and what I expect from you. This will be a session to get a basic understanding of your goals and what you are looking for in a coach

  • I expect you to be all in. Nutrition coaching is an investment, but it will only pay off if you put in the work. I can not make you do anything. I can provide the tools, help you strategize and work with you to overcome obstacles; but you will not see the results you are looking for if you do not do the work outside of the sessions.

    I also expect you to be kind to yourself. I know it's tough to do that sometimes, because we have such high standards for ourselves, whether we believe that or not; but I expect you to be kind to yourself just like we are taught to be kind to others

  • At this time, I only see clients virtually for nutrition coaching.

  • A registered dietician is a trained and licensed health professional who has completed rigorous educational and clinical requirements to provide medical nutrition therapy to individuals. They help people manage diseases and conditions through personalized nutrition plans.

    A nutrition coach, on the other hand, typically has less formal training and often works with healthy individuals who want to change their dietary habits to improve their well-being, energy levels or fitness goals. They may provide guidance on meal planning, portion control, and general healthy eating habits. If an individual has a chronic condition such as diabetes, heart disease, or gastrointestinal disorders, a dietician will prescribe a specific meal plan according to your condition. A nutrition coach can then help you adhere to that meal plan as part of your support system team
